Our Hardwood Floor Installation Process

Beautiful hardwood floors in just a few simple steps:

Step 1

Acclimate the Hardwood Planks

Your hardwood planks should be left in the room where they will be installed for several days to adjust to the temperature and humidity levels properly.

Step 2

Prepare the Subfloor and Surrounding Area

First, we Visqueen all surrounding areas to contain dust from traveling to other parts of your house. Then we ensure the subfloor is cleaned, dried, and leveled. Our team will also correct any flooring irregularities or imperfections before installation begins, such as sanding all plywood seams and any squeaks.

Step 3

Hardwood Installation

During your hardwood installation, we first provide a moisture barrier to protect the hardwood planks from moisture underneath your house. If your Hardwood planks are under 5”, we use an aqua bar moisture barrier paper, and if they are over 5” in width, then we would use a liquid moisture barrier that we roll on before installation.

We utilize three installation methods, the first being a “nail down” installation method. This is when we attach your wood planks to the subfloor using nails. We use this method when hardwood planks are 5” and under in width.

We can also use a “nail and supplemental glue down” installation method, in which we attach your wood planks to the subfloor with a hardwood glue adhesive. This method allows movement in the wood and also nails to ensure fasten-down strength. It is typically used on Hardwood planks over 5” in width.

Lastly, we also use a “full-trowel glue down” installation method, in which we attach your wood planks to the subfloor with a full trowel glue that is spread everywhere on the surface. This method is typically used on concrete floors where nail penetration is impossible.

Step 4

Sand and Finish

Our flooring contractors sand and smooth any rough or uneven spots, dispose of any remaining debris, and fill all movement cracks and gaps with a hardwood filler. If you want to add some color to your floors, they can also apply a unique stain color. They then apply a protective coating, such as Swedish Finish or Water Based Finishes, to protect, and prevent scratches, dents, and other future damages. We always do 3 coats to ensure lasting protection for years to come.

Step 5

Cleanup and Maintenance

After your hardwood installation is complete, our team thoroughly cleans any excess debris or dust to ensure your new floors look their best. We are proud to say we leave our customer’s homes looking better than we found them.
